Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez, left off All-Star roster, to face Giants
Philadelphia left-hander Cristopher Sanchez will get an opportunity to demonstrate he still deserves a spot on the National League All-Star team when the Phillies open a six-game California swing against the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. Sanchez (7-2, 2.68 ERA) was high on many lists of snubs when the All-Star pitching staffs were announced Sunday for the July 15 game in Atlanta. In addition to his stellar record and ERA, Sanchez has 108 strikeouts over 17 starts this season. Sanchez has allowed two or runs or less in each of his last seven starts, going 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA.

San Francisco Giants Gifted Home Run on Misplay
Sunday night's game between the San Francisco Giants and the Athletics ended up being a 6-2 win for the Giants, but the A's handed over three runs in this one that made it a little more frustrating for the home team. In the first inning, starter Jacob Lopez gave up a single to Heliot Ramos, hit Rafael Devers, and then gave up another single to Wilmer Flores to load the bases before getting Matt Chapman to fly out to center for the first out of the game.
Historic A's, Giants rivalry brings sold-out crowds to Sutter Health Park
It was a major weekend for Major League Baseball with the San Francisco Giants facing off against the A's in West Sacramento. The Giants took two games out of the series playing on their minor league team's turf and the A's on their temporary home turf. Fans got to experience up-close seats to watch homegrown players like Logan Webb and some of their other favorite players. "I don't think I've ever sat this close to a professional game," said Stephen Wegley, who lives in Rancho Cordova.
Adames, Birdsong shine as Giants take series finale against Athletics
The Giants came out of Sacramento with a good win. After getting off to a slow start in the series opener on Thursday, the Giants closed out the Athletics on Sunday to notch a 6-2 win in front of a sold out crowd of 12,180 fans and capture the I-80 series. Shortstop Willy Adames went 1 for 3, hit a solo homer and drove in three runs. Hayden Birdsong made his second career start against the A's, striking out five and allowing a home run across five innings.
San Francisco Giants Among Teams Pirates Slugger Can Block in Trade
The San Francisco Giants need to add at least one more bat to their lineup before the trade deadline, but one of the more intriguing options may be off the table thanks to a no-trade clause in his contract. Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently reported that a no-trade protection in the contract of Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds allows him to block trades to any of the following teams: the Giants, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays.

San Francisco Giants Must Improve in Key Area to Stay Alive in Wild Card Race
The San Fransisco Giants are one of many who are still chasing their 50th win on the season as the All-Star break approaches. The Dodgers are 56-34 and the way they are performing nobody is beating them out for the division title. Right now those spots belong to the New York Mets, the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres. The Giants are in a tie for the final Wild Card spot with San Diego, along with the St. Louis Cardinals.
San Francisco Giants Place Former Cardinal On IL
The San Francisco Giants are 4-8 over their last 12, including a sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins, dropping two of three to the Chicago White Sox, splitting a four-gamer with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and splitting the first two against the Athletics in West Sacramento. The effort to turn things around got a little harder this weekend, as they had to place their high-leverage bullpen lefty on the IL. Former Stanford Cardinal Erik Miller, 27, was placed on the injured list on Saturday with a left elbow sprain, the team announced.
Buster Posey's Emergence As Aggressive Executive Named Top Storyline for Giants
The San Francisco Giants were able to have a strong first half of the season, but some recent struggles have started to become a tad concerning. Few teams in baseball were more of a pleasant surprise than the Giants in the first half of the year. This was a team that was widely expected to finish in fourth place in the National League West before the campaign started. Instead, San Francisco is right in the mix for a Wild Card spot in the National League heading toward the All-Star break.
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen makes trade desires very clear
The Arizona Diamondbacks are hovering right around .500 this season and will likely need a big run to make noise in the National League playoff race, but the front office has some tough decisions to make before they get to the home stretch of the season. As it stands, the Diamondbacks are in fourth place in a loaded NL West division that could have three teams — the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants — all in the playoffs. Arizona is 44-45 after an impressive 7-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, but it is still 11.5 games behind the Dodgers for the division lead and 3.5 out of the final wild card spot in the National League.
