Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Tuesday that he has removed Pete Rose, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and other deceased players from the league's permanently ineligible list. The decision paves the way for Rose and Jackson — two of baseball's greatest players whose legacies were tainted by gambling — to gain admittance to the Hall of Fame. “Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game,” wrote Manfred in a letter to attorney Jeffrey M. Lenkov, who petitioned for Rose's removal from the permanently banned list in January.

The San Francisco Giants have been one of the most pleasant surprises in baseball during the 2025 MLB regular season. Executives around the league have been impressed by their hot start and ability to keep pace in the daunting National League West. Part of the reason people were down on the Giants coming into the campaign was the competition in their own division. The San Francisco Giants have jumped out to a strong 24-18 start to the 2025 season. One player in particular, Willy Adames, was the team's biggest offseason acquisition. President of baseball operations Buster Posey signed the shortstop to a seven-year, $182 million deal, the largest in franchise history. While it still was not a great showing from the shortstop, now batting sixth, Adames showed signs of life at the plate.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to string together back-to-back wins Tuesday night for the first time since April 30-May 1 against the New York Mets. If they're able to do that, they'll also take the first series of the year against the San Francisco Giants. The D-backs are 22-20, and 5-5 in their last 10 games, alternating between losses and wins. On Monday they took the series opener 2-1 behind a masterful performance from Merrill Kelly and the slugging of Corbin Carroll.

Carroll hit a 2-1 pitch from Verlander over the wall in left-center in the third. The Giants got their lone run in the bottom half off Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly.

The San Francisco Giants know that their level of success this season will be tied to how productive their offense can be. In the early going, it was center fielder Jung Hoo Lee playing at an incredibly high level alongside veteran outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald, buoying the team's success. With a need for other players to step up and begin producing, one of the sluggers who has answered the call is outfielder Heliot Ramos. In 263 first-half appearances, he had a .298/.365/.523 slash line with 14 home runs, 11 doubles and 46 RBI.

The record is sounding broken. Justin Verlander, once again, put himself in position to earn his first win as a Giant. As baseball's oldest player, he's now recorded four quality starts in his last five outings. Manager Bob Melvin's new lineup couldn't figure out Merrill Kelly, who outdueled the future Hall of Famer by allowing one run over seven innings.

Heliot Ramos and Jalen Beeks engaged in an epic confrontation in the bottom of the eighth inning that culminated in a screaming line drive to left field over the head of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Somehow the lanky outfielder managed to leap high in the air to make a game saving catch.
